Technical Error Leads To Incorrect SmarTrip Card Balances Showing Up For Some Metro Riders
Returning Metro riders might be surprised to have a lot more money on their SmarTrip card than they should — and even more surprised when the money disappears.
Metro says it has completed all the technical work on the back end to allow for the setup of mobile payment services.
The shortage comes as the District changed out D.C. One Cards for a special version of the regular Metro card.
Metro is giving an automatic credit to registered SmarTrip card holders this summer for any overcharges exceeding $2 between 2015 and 2017.
This comes after Metro released a commemorative SmarTrip card in December that’s notably devoid of any reference to the president-elect.
The limited-edition cards can be purchased online tomorrow and elsewhere next week.
