Ask DCist: Smokefree in D.C.?

What are the smokeless bars and clubs and restaurants? I don’t go out in D.C. as much as I would (as much as I do in NYC), because of the smoke. D.C has an active smokefree lobbying group, Smokefree D.C., which regularly goes head-to-head with Ban the Ban and other pro-smoking establishments groups (smoking “choice” if you will). So far, efforts to legislate smokefree bars and restaurants in the District have not panned out, but…

To Smoke or Not to Smoke?

Tonight the D.C. City Council will debate a topic they have batted around for the better part of two years –- the possibility of imposing a smoking ban or some similar legislative measure upon the restaurants and bars of the District. While many issues faced by the City Council attract attention and provoke debate, few others may have as immediate and obvious an impact on the city’s growing youthful populace as a ban on smoking….

Jim Graham Wants to Know: Smoking or Non?

Judging by the titanic commenting slugfests that our previous posts on the reincarnation of the D.C. smoking ban have provoked, Councilmember Jim Graham may have quite a meeting on his hands tomorrow. Smoking Ad Fatigue

By now you’ve seen the “Mary Quits” and “Bob Quits” advertisements plastering the city. They’re part of a massive campaign by the America’s Legacy Foundation, a group funded by the giant 1999 tobacco settlement between the states’ attorneys general and the cigerette companies to encourage people to quit smoking. The Mary quits website features a daily video and log monitoring her attempt to quit smoking last summer, giving the prosaic task of kicking an addiction…
