D.C. is likely to come in under budget again on snow removal.

The lack of snow this winter may be depressing for those of us who like winter sports or snow days, but local governments certainly aren’t shedding a tear.

After what seemed like yet another scandal in-the-making for Mayor Vince Gray, the fight over grass-cutting contracts in the District seemed to largely fizzle late last week after a D.C. Council committee grilled city officials and two contractors that had bid to cut grass and clear snow in the city.

Mayor Adrian Fenty will adopt a different approach to removing snow from District streets after a winter storm – one that places a bigger emphasis on residential streets instead of putting them on the back burner until the main roads have been plowed.
