Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
Let’s take a look back at a week that raised this Zen koan: if Kevin Federline got into a wrestling ring with a wrestler, who would you root for? Austinist was in an entertainment state of mind as they covered the dickens out of the Austin Film Festival, depicted all the Big 12 football coaches as South Park characters, and interviewed Jose Gonzalez. Chicagoist talked about the passion as they bid adieu to Bell’s Beer,…

DCist’s August Theater Preview
August is notoriously a dead month for theatregoers. Truth be told, we’re glad to take a breather after wearing ourselves out during the first Capital Fringe Festival. But we still can’t wait until September, which marks the start of so many companies’ seasons. In the meantime, there are a few shows to tide you over. >>Kennedy Center spends the summer months highlighting the talent of teens, with their workshop production of Muzical! showcased by Cappies…

Reader, Meet Author
TUESDAY Are you so pissed off at DCist for our marginal abetting of the Death Cab pre-sale sellout that you’re just busting to express your righteous hipster indignation in unrhymed dactylic hexameter? Rail against the machine, dude, at Busboys and Poets’ weekly open mic “session.” It all goes down tonight at 9 p.m. Tickets are handed out “approximately one hour” before, and they cost two dollars. Hmmm. We recommend “Indig Nation” as the new name…

Weekly Music Agenda
So, DCist saw “The Aristocrats” this weekend. Bob Saget is a dirty, dirty man. Seriously, you’ll never look at Full House the same way after this flick. It’s no wonder the Olsen twins ended up the way they did. Also, the guys behind South Park are geniuses. Now, to the music: Monday: We’re tempted to send you guys to Fort Reno tonight. It’s another Dischord smashup with songstress Mary Timony headlining, possibly or possibly not…

The Mayoral Update: Evans Yes, Williams No?
The 2006 mayoral race is slowly picking up steam, as recent events indicate. While the past few months have been alive with a flurry of rumors as to who would run and when they would announce, the next few months may well see the formal announcement of candidacies and the shaping of electoral platforms. Already the cast of characters is shifting in interesting ways, and everyone seems to be attending one fundraiser or another or…

Transit Trend Alert: Silent Teen Gangs?
A friend of DCist, former Mount Pleasant resident Anthony O’Rourke, was in town visiting from New York last weekend and recounted witnessing a run-in between two “gangs” of teens on the Red Line. O’Rourke’s observations aren’t necessarily a story of racial adolescent struggle, it is something greater. You may be familiar with the 1979 classic “The Warriors,” perhaps the best (or only) sort-of post-apocalyptic subway gang action drama based on Xenophon’s Anabasis ever created. Well…
