D.C. may soon raise the speed limit on two roads that have generated tens of thousands of speeding camera tickets.

It’s long been said that a cop will let you slide if you’re speeding within less than 10 mph over the posted speed limit. The same can now be said for D.C.’s many speed cameras.

A D.C. task force gathered yesterday to discuss the thorny issues surrounding the city’s ever-expanding network of traffic cameras, including whether or not fines are too high and what it might take to change driver behavior.

After a recent business trip to China, Mayor Vince Gray returned to D.C. with a newfound appreciation of how an autocratic system can finish large-scale projects with brutal efficiency.
