D.C. to Combine Mental Health and Drug Treatment Agencies Into New Department of Behavioral Health
The District will blend its Department of Mental Health and a Department of Health office devoted to combatting substance abuse into a new, consolidated agency, Mayor Vince Gray said today.
A recent survey released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration found that nearly a quarter of Americans admitted to binge drinking and 8.4 percent have used an illicit drug in the past month. CBS spun the data into a list of the “Booziest states in America,” with D.C. ranking third. Evidently CBS overlooked the fact that D.C. is not a state.
