D.C. Unveils 1,360 New LED Lights for Alleys
Mayor Vince Gray today celebrated the end of a year-long project to install 1,360 LED lights in D.C. alleys.
There’s now more evidence that D.C. is becoming a green leader in the U.S.—according to Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, D.C. installed more green roofs than any other metropolitan area in 2011.

Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police officers are looking for rockfish poachers who snagged over 20,000 pounds of rockfish this week. Maryland officers discovered a 900-yard gill net with 6,000 pounds of fish near Bloody Point Lighthouse Tuesday, leading to the further uncovering of more sunken nets, bringing the total to over 10 tons. Chef Barton Seaver Off the Hook
Washingtonian reports today that chef Barton Seaver has left his post at Hook. Seaver, formerly of Jaleo and Café Saint-Ex/Bar Pilar, has been with Hook since it opened in March 2007. Seaver has become a golden boy of sorts in the D.C.-area for his dedicated advocacy of sustainable seafood, and has been honored by the Blue Ocean Institute for his commitment to oceanic sustainability.
