Duke Ellington, Chuck Brown Could Get Own Streets

The Post’s Marc Fisher alerted us to some exciting news on Wednesday: the possibility of Chuck Brown and Duke Ellington meeting in D.C. No, smelling salts aren’t involved. Rather, Ward 1 Council member Jim Graham is proposing naming sections of T Street NW and 7th Street NW after the two local music legends in Shaw. Landlords and building owners engaging in unethical, possibly illegal activities to evict tenants? Never! Well, that may been the case in four buildings in the District, and one member of the D.C. The posters they created will be on display for one week at Café Mawonaj (Operated by the Vox Union) at 624…

Visions Out, Reagan In?

Although DCist isn’t necessarily surprised that Visions Cinema Bistro has been at risk of going out of business (with Landmark opening its E Street multiplex), but we are surprised about a possible replacement tenant. A DCist tipster says that he “wouldn’t be surprised if Grover Norquist tries to turn Visions into a Reagan museum.” Say what? We’re a bit confused. Think about it. Since Reagan was shot around the corner at the Washington Hilton, it…

D.C.’s Little Addis Ababa

DCist has always thought that D.C. lacks neighborhoods with a clear ethnic identity. There is no Little Italy, no Koreatown, no Pulaski Square. There is a Chinatown, but in reality, it is a Chinablock flanked by a Hooters, an Irish pub, a Chipotle and a Coyote Ugly. And while Mount Pleasant and Columbia Heights used to be a district of mainly Salvadorans, an influx of Route 42 hipsters caused Don Juan’s (corner of Lamont and…
