The Arlington-based company wants to focus on Politico and pretty much just Politico.

The Final Descent Into #TBDNight
TBD is truly no more. Pointing one’s web browser to TBD.com now automatically redirects to WJLA.com, bringing a bit more finality to Allbritton’s scuttled attempt at hyperlocal journalism.

Alamo Drafthouse Clarifies Definition of “D.C.”
Alamo Drafthouse wises up a bit, and says its upcoming theater in Ashburn, Va., 30 miles from Washington, will be called “Alamo Ashburn” and not “Alamo D.C.”

The Saturday Morning Post
Good morning, Washington. Howard University refuses to relegate homecoming to a single weekend’s football game. Instead, the historically black university boasts a multi-day bash that’s said to be unrivaled in the Mid-Atlantic. The 87th annual cultural celebration kicked off last week, and this morning is the university’s spirited homecoming parade. The event kicked off at 9:30 am, so go grab a spot along Georgia Avenue near Banneker High School for a good view of the procession.

TBD Spoofs The Washington Times
In yesterday’s Morning Roundup, DCist noted that Washington Times Senior Editor Emily Miller was reporting on the process of getting a gun in D.C. by going through it herself. Later that afternoon, TBD’s Ryan Kearney parodied Miller’s first-hand account, prefacing his spoof by calling Miller’s attempt to buy a gun “willfully ignorant.”

Erik Wemple Moving To WaPo
TBD Editor Erik Wemple is taking his talents to the Washington Post. POLITICO reports this afternoon that Wemple — who really raked the Post over the coals during his tenure as editor of the Washington City Paper — will be the paper’s newest media beat reporter.
At 12:26 this afternoon, Arlington blogger of record ARLnow reported that a bomb threat had been called in to the office building at 1100 Wilson Blvd. in Rosslyn, which houses the main offices of WJLA, Politico and the remains of TBD. This was apparently news to local beat reporters working inside.

Despite Murrow Award, TBD Overhaul Coming Next Week
When TBD laid off a whole cadre of talented reporters and editors after a mere six months in existence, most people appeared to agree that it was a hasty move. A move which seems even more foolish now, since the site was recently awarded the Edward R. Murrow Award for the best Online News Operation in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia or the District of Columbia.

TBD Announces Changes to Its Network Members
Friday afternoon, Steve Buttry, TBD’s Director of Community Engagement, emailed members of TBD’s Community Network to let them know about how the changes to TBD/WJLA will affect their relationship (full disclosure, my neighborhood blog is a member of the network). TBD will get rid of the “News Near You” feature currently on their website. They will begin to only link to content that is of interest to the metro region in general, instead of…

In Case You Missed The Last Twenty Years Or So
A six-person byline focusing on the “timeline of the whitening of D.C.” which includes statements like “[bike] lanes manage to merge with the city’s history of framing everything in black and white terms,” touches on Tony Williams’ blackness, the banning of single beer sales, Borf, and HOPE VI in Arthur Capper/Carollsburg, and concludes that “the flood of pale-complexioned fans into the stadium in Southeast…is a reminder of how big a change those curly “W” hats represent”? If this story represents TBD’s swan song as a news organization, well, they’re going out with a bang. (Appropriately enough: it’s even got a correction.)
