Just One Third Of D.C. Students Are Considered College-Ready, But The Numbers Are Going Up
Scores for DCPS students have increased by 8.5 percentage points in English-Language Arts and 7.3 points in math since 2015.
Students enrolled in D.C. Public Schools during the 2012-13 academic year improved their math proficiency by 3.6 percent and reading proficiency by 3.9 percent over the previous school year.
D.C.’s charter schools aren’t only growing faster than traditional public schools, but they’re also showing bigger improvements in citywide standardized tests.

DCPS Test Scores Rise Across the Board
At a press conference this morning at Ward 7’s Plummer Elementary, Mayor Adrian Fenty and D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee happily announced that student performance on the D.C. Comprehensive Assessment System (DC-CAS) exams show improvement in reading and math at both the elementary and secondary levels. According to a release, elementary schools scored 46 percent proficient in reading, up 8 points from 2007, while math scores rose 11 points. Secondary schools showed 39 percent proficient…
