The Dodos return to D.C. tonight. Check out their track “Confidence.”

It was halftime. The Dallas Mavericks were leading the Miami Heat, 53-51, in the game that could end — and ultimately did end — the NBA Finals. As such, the Dodos had no idea why they had such excellent attendance at their show.

When the Dodos last visited D.C., we were so impressed that we had considerable difficulties keeping our excitement down to one paragraph. The group’s youthful exuberance was just barely outmatched by their technical skills, and they excelled at making surprisingly full-bodied sounds using primarily drums and guitar. But their flourishes with additional instruments (trumpet, vibraphone, extra percussion) pushed were what pushed that set over the edge, providing an accurate mirror to last year’s excellent Visiter….

The real story behind any Les Savy Fav show is what sort of crazy stunts frontman Tim Harrington has up his sleeve. Their catalog of thirteen years of post-punk gems lays the foundation, but it’s the bizarre costume changes, frequent audience interactions and off-kilter banter that has become the stuff of legend.
