The New Republic Loses Top Editor, Will Cut Print Frequency and Opening New York Office
The New Republic’s editor, Franklin Foer, resigns amid news that the longtime magazine will cut print frequency and open a New York office.
TNR editor Franklin Foer said, “This is hardly a great moral issue of our time, but it’s not a terribly complicated one. It’s an offensive name. Period.”
Huge changes are coming to the Washington City Paper, the alt-weekly announced today. Editor Michael Schaffer and Housing Complex reporter Lydia DePillis are joining The New Republic. Mike Madden is the new editor, and Jonathan L. Fischer is the new managing editor.

Franklin Foer, a longtime writer for The New Republic, was recently named editor of the venerable political magazine. A fourth generation Washingtonian, he’s authored a book called, “How Soccer Explains the World,” (which we heartily recommend), and his writing has appeared in a host of publications, from The New York Times to Spin.
