Thievery Corporation Releases Pro-Occupy Video

You may not like the Occupy D.C. encampment at McPherson Square, but it’s hard not to dig “Unified Tribes,” the new Thievery Corporation and Mr. Lif collaboration that extols the virtues of the movement while featuring D.C. prominently in the song’s video.

Eric Hilton Tries His Hand at Filmmaking

As you might have noted in Thursday’s Popcorn & Candy post, Eric Hilton, one half of uber-DC group Thievery Corporation and prodigious opener of trendy bars and restaurants, has now branched out to filmmaking. With…interesting results. His film, Babylon Central, will be screened at the Our City Film Festival this Sunday. The film is about Sebastian, Seb for short of course, a bike courier by day and a DJ by night, who fails to deliver…

How Thievery Corporation Took D.C.

While their tax brackets and passport stamps have increased from worldwide touring, Thievery Corporation’s Eric Hilton and Rob Garza have maintained their D.C. style through fourteen years and five albums. They celebrated this milestone last week with the release of their first greatest hits collection, It Takes A Thief.

Click Click: Paul McCartney @ FedEx Field

Some things in life are always true. Seeing Paul McCartney in concert, even at age 67, is one of them. Sir Paul wowed a near-capacity crowd at FedEx Field on Saturday night with a mammoth, Beatles-centric 35 song set that also included hits and album cuts from his Wings era and solo career. Go Home Already: Breaking News, Pipes, Democracy

>> Breaking news from the DCist News Desk Sofa: Anna Nicole Smith has died in Florida. Smith was reportedly found in unconscious in her Hollywood, Fla. hotel room and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Looking back, it’s hard to remember all that made Smith a tabloid celeb but we’re sure we’ll be seeing a Law & Order “ripped from the headlines” reminding us soon. [CNN.com] >> Never let it be said D.C. artists don’t…

Album Review: Beau Tand

We get a lot of CDs here at DCist, and at least 90 percent of them are nothing more than DJ mix tapes. Sure it’s more 1980s Bowie than Ziggy Stardust, and that might be enough to drive some listeners…
