Cyclist Struck by Truck at 11th and U Streets Last Week Won’t Face Ticket for Riding Without a Helmet
Last week we reported that Shawn Streiff, the 29-year-old cyclist that collided with a truck at the corner of 11th and U Streets NW, had been cited by police for running a red light, failing to yield the right of way and not wearing a helmet. It now looks like one of those citations is being dismissed.
A Prince George’s County policeman did not have a properly calibrated speed gun nor could he pace Councilwoman Karen Toles for long enough to determine that she was speeding, even though he had to drive over 100 miles-per-hour to catch up to her on February 22.
A day short of the end of an amnesty program under which drivers with two-year-old tickets can pay up without the usual penalties, Virginia and Maryland drivers remain in arrears to the District for hundreds of millions of dollars.

Salahis Stopped by Secret Service Near White House
This sounds like it must be a joke, but apparently, it’s not. Infamous White House crashers Michaele and Tareq Salahi were stopped in a limo by Secret Service officers near the White House Wednesday night, the Associated Press is reporting. The incident occurred at the same time that President Barack Obama was hosting his second state dinner, this time in honor of Mexico’s president.
