Taffety Punk’s take on Shakespeare’s messy TITUS ANDRONICUS is a worthy, if uneven, endeavor.

Here’s the thing about naming your tour: Bring Back The Dudes as Titus Andronicus and the So So Glos named the tour that wrapped up last night at the Black Cat: not every “dude” has the same interpretation of what that word means.

Titus Andronicus is not a band to catch “next time,” they’re a band to catch every time. The DCist music staff has done just that and revisits highlights from their previous visits.

Titus Andronicus just released its new album yesterday, and are playing a show here in D.C. at the Rock and Roll Hotel tonight. Check out their single, “In A Big City.”

At the start of a weekend in which most local music fans were excited to revisit the hits of a bygone era, Friday night’s sold-out show at the Rock and Roll Hotel celebrated two bands currently enjoying their moment, even as both made plenty of reverent glances to the past.

A few short weeks after DCist had named New Jersey’s Titus Andronicus one of the must-see acts that we’d caught at SXSW, they decimated our already high expectations at St. Stephen’s Church. The poor ventilation and Positive Force affiliation added a new level of punk urgency to one of the year’s most well-written and gut-wrenching releases, The Monitor.

This past weekend welcomed a great indie rock show at the Atlas District’s The Red and The Black. The night started out with a super tight set by local act Impossible Hair. Their sound can be likened to the straight forward indie rock of yore, with a dab of new wave sparkle. They consistently hit the audience with with pop sensible, nod-provoking tune after tune.
