If that’s not the dose of local music you were hoping for tonight, how about Meredith Bragg at the Black Cat, or Gist at Iota? >> Ever thought, I’d like to get a new perspective on Scientology. A…

Happy Holidays from New Rock Church of Fire

Last spring, we interviewed New Rock Church of Fire for a Three Stars piece, and they revealed to us their deepest desire as a band: to play the Black Cat. Well, Santa apparently reads DCist, because tonight the Alexandria natives are getting their wish. Tonight they’ll play the Cat’s main stage with Velvet, Mas y Mas and Hammer No More The Fingers. However her 2005 release, Change It All, established her as especially talented when it comes to…

Photo of the Day: December 3, 2007

We were taken aback by this beautiful photo by Samer Farha in the DCist Flickr pool this morning. After only a quick glance at the tag “Library of Congress,” I was trying to place this building somewhere in the city, but then realized this is a shot of the gorgeous architecture of the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center, out in Culpeper, Va. Tucked in the Blue Ridge Mountains, both American and international film, television, and…

This is probably due to the staggered opening nights around the country, but can also be attributed to competition with other sports — college football entering its stretch run, the NFL in midseason, even the NBA’s opening weeks garner more attention than college hoops. We’re not about to let this exciting time slip through the cracks. With…
