A tornado with winds reaching 90 mph touched down in Bowie yesterday, leaving uprooted trees and some damaged houses in its wake.

The tornadoes uprooted trees and caused power outages.

The watch is on until 6 p.m. along with a wind advisory, a flood warning, and a coastal flood advisory.

At 3:46 p.m., a severe thunderstorm “capable of producing a tornado was located over US Capitol, or over Nationals Park, moving east at 40 mph,” states an NWS weather advisory.

Now a tropical depression, Florence is moving into the region, bringing rain, wind, and possibly twisters.

It’s the first twister to touch the city since 2001.

Today the National Weather Service is investigating whether the town was hit by a tornado or a microburst.

The weather calls for nonstop rain until tomorrow morning, and with it: flash floods, thunderstorms, and possibly a tornado.

The National Weather Service has placed the D.C. area under a tornado watch until 5 p.m. today.
