Hands Off, Today Show, The Baby Cheetahs Are Ours

This morning, NBC’s Today show featured a segment on the National Zoo’s lovable pair of cheetah cubs, providing them with some serious bragging rights in their ongoing cuteness battle with the Zoo’s lion cubs. The Zoo has also set up a real-time cheetah cub cam, so you can keep an eye on the little critters even when you’re stuck behind your desk.

Let’s Keep The Surrealism Going, Shall We?

So far today, we’ve featured a sloppily-edited-yet-mostly-accurate movie trailer, a pair of clowns in the Council chambers and Ted Leonsis giving us a preview of his version of the “Dougie” — I suppose it’s only appropriate to keep things moving along with this video. Here’s a clip of Vince Vaughn, who obviously decided the most appropriate way to prove that his “electric cars are gay” joke was harmless was by laying a sloppy one on TBD movie critic Arch Campbell while Vaughn sidekick Kevin James just stood there awkwardly.

Sweet Video of Breakdancing on the Metro System

Hat tip to NBCWashington.com for this fun video piece from local dancer/DJ Mad Sole and friends. I, for one, would like to see more breakdance performances on my daily rides around the Metrorail system. Surely our hometown B-boys can give those more famous New York dance crews a run for their money….

Vince Gray: Election Year is a Bad Time to Raise Taxes

Those pesky Save Our Safety Net folks (the same ones who got several D.C. Council members to put on superhero capes last week) got up in D.C. Council Chairman Vincent Gray’s face with a camera during a lobbying push this morning. You’ve got to admire their moxie. These grassroots budget activists are pushing a proposal to increase income taxes on the wealthiest District residents (9.0 percent for those earning between $200,000 and $1 million, and…

Needed: Duckling Access Ramps

Thanks to frequent Flickr contributor philliefan99 for dropping this heart-tugging video into our pool. These ducklings look they are just too little to hop over those big fountain steps in Pershing Park. All of them except for one, anyway. Spring in D.C. really brings an abundance of cute. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for these little guys!…

What’s Funnier Than Watching a Burglar Fall Off a Ladder?

Watching WRC/NBC4 news anchor Jim Vance totally lose it while cracking up over the video footage, of course. UPDATE: See also the other classic uncontrollable-laughter-over-someone-falling-down-Vance-moment. View more news videos at: http://www.nbcwashington.com/video….

Watch: Video of College Park Police Beating

In the event you haven’t yet watched the video that was released by an attorney for one of the University of Maryland students who claims he was beaten by Prince George’s County police officers last month, take a minute to do so now. You’ll recall that 27 people were arrested on March 3 in the wake of post-game celebrations in College Park — celebrations that by all accounts got out of hand. But this video…

Watch: Following Speed Limits Helps Save Lives

By DCist Contributor Joe Danielewicz Street Smart, the same regional safety program that brought you 2008’s gruesome “dude getting smacked by a car and spilling coffee everywhere” ads, is once again employing shocking visuals in an effort to convince motorists, cyclists and pedestrians that driving even a little over the speed limit will cost lives this spring. In a series of dramatic safety demonstrations in Montgomery County this afternoon, “Bobby,” a wire-framed dummy the size…

Marion Barry Reality Show: Now With Trailers!

Local documentary filmmaker Kirk Fraser and his company, May 3rd Films, has posted a pair of trailers online for the spec reality TV show he’s been making about former mayor and Ward 8 D.C. Council member Marion Barry. News of the show’s existence first surfaced back in November. The first video, above, shows Barry getting censured by the D.C. Council earlier this month, along with some behind the scenes footage of Barry meeting with…

Mid-Morning Alex Chilton Tribute Break

It’s a Big Star kind of morning, as us aging indie rock fans mourn the untimely passing of the influential band’s frontman, Alex Chilton. So here’s “September Gurls,” from 1974’s Radio City. “Thirteen,” from 1972’s #1 Record. And of course, “Alex Chilton” by The Replacements….
