“I’m happy, if you’re happy. We all should be happy. Just be happy,” the At-large councilmember said on his last day in elected office.

He’s slated to step down August 15, when he starts as the new head of the D.C. Chamber of Commerce.

“As you and I sit here there is no conflict,” he told Kojo Nnamdi.

It is unclear how he plans to represent a powerful business lobby and serve as the chair of the Committee on Business, Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.

“We honor the many champions who have fought for civil rights and equality as we renew our push for full democracy and statehood.”

With one poll showing he has just 29 percent support, will the incumbent councilmember be able to hang onto his seat again?
