After Initiative 82 Passes, D.C. Restaurants Look To Ease Transition Away From Tipped Wages
Restaurant owners and advocates are considering lobbying the D.C. Council for legislative changes that could help offset the costs of phasing out the tipped wage.
A city task force wants more than $50 million to be given to child care workers this year as the first step in increasing their pay in the long term.
Many employees say that their overall wages decreased, even though management coupled the elimination of tips with an hourly pay increase.
Some 5,000 people, many of whom make the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour, will see their wages increase to $12.75 by 2020.
