The Brooks is the sixth of seven planned smaller family homeless shelters built to replace D.C. General, which closed in late 2018.
A forum this past weekend in Ward 3 offered a preview of how the mayor might sell her agenda in neighborhoods where new development often faces skepticism.

The shelter is slated to be finished by late 2019 or early 2020.
“Is this someone bored who thinks it’s a joke? Or is this part of something bigger?”
They say the local ANC should have been consulted on the choice of site.
“it features the earmarks of an agency intent on saying ‘no’ without any intention of serious consideration,” the Ward 3 councilmember said.
Mary Cheh’s letter comes after weeks of opponents complaining about the cost of the plan and the sites chosen.
This comes after an ANC resolution calling upon Cheh to adopt legislation regarding the noisy machines.
