WPAC’s Experimental Media Series @ the Corcoran

Open your mouths and say ahhh for that appetizing pill that is seriously experimental art. Thanks to the folks at Washington Project for the ArtsCorcoran, you can get your fill tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. in Corcoran’s Hammer Auditorium when they conclude their Experimental Media Series with Night #3. It’s difficult to exaggerate just how far from the canvas we have come, and somewhat serendipitous that WPAC has chosen to present experimental media as…

Arts Agenda: Bits and Pieces

It’s summer and our beloved Arts Editor is away this week, so the agenda is a little on the short side. Here are a few things to see. >> We have written before about the Washington Project for the ArtsCorcoran’s Experimental Media project. Arts Agenda: Fake It ‘Til You Make It

>> Artomatic comes to a close this weekend, after five long weeks of inundating us with massive quantities of art, free performances, lectures, concerts, film series, demonstrations and workshops, and spirited community building that even your old summer camp counselor couldn’t match. The collection is tastefully mounted and the pieces are a visual feast. However, the exhibit is also somewhat limited in that there is…

ColorField.remix @ Hemphill Fine Arts

Back in the Swinging Sixties, Washington was home to a collection of artists who were dubbed forerunners of abstract, color field painting. As an integral part of this season’s ColorField.remix, a visitation of the legacy left behind by the Washington Color School painters, Hemphill Fine Arts presents a three-artist exhibition: Jason Gubbiotti’s Wrong Way to Paradise; Leon Berkowitz’s The Cathedral Series; and Portia Munson’s Pink Project: Contained. Although Jason Gubbiotti currently lives and works in…

April is a huge month for visual art in D.C. Friday marks the beginning of the twofive-week-long Artomatic, while later this month we’ll be treated to the first ever international art fair in the city with artDC, both of which we’ll tell you more about as they come closer. You’ve got plenty to keep you busy in the meantime. Believe it or not, Paris and New York don’t hold the monopoly on influential visual art…
