After three weeks of brewing, the DCist Honey Ale entered its next phase yesterday when we finally moved the fresh beer from the plastic drum where it had been fermenting to bottles.

Last Saturday, brewing of the DCist Honey Ale—our attempt to imitate the White House’s beer recipe—commenced.

Brewing of the DCist Honey Ale will commence tomorrow at Smith Commons at 1245 H Street. And unlike the White House, we’re not keeping any secrets. Our beer will be made with complete transparency.

Our quest to replicate the White House Honey Ale began in earnest Wednesday night with the procurement of the most vital of the ingredients: the honey.

DCist is teaming up with the D.C. home brewer who launched the petition that prompted the publication of the White House’s top-secret beer recipes and making some of our own.

Plus, there’s a video of White House chef Sam Kass and sous chef Tafari Campbell making the beer.

White House spokesperson Jay Carney recently announced on Twitter that the administration will unveil the beer’s recipe once a petition for this request receives 25,000 signatures by September 17.

On the campaign trail, President Obama has been presenting hosts and supporters with bottles of the White House’s homemade beer. But what goes into crafting White House Honey Ale? The people want answers, Mr. President!
