Members of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors seemed hesitant to jump into the middle of the land dispute that led White’s Ferry to suspend operations last year.

Moving magnate Chuck Kuhn says he’s ready to get the historic ferry between Leesburg and Poolesville running again, but the owner of the Virginia landing says he hasn’t been open to her offers.

Although White’s Ferry has a new owner pledging to resume operations, negotiations remain stalled over use of a private landing on the Virginia side of the Potomac River.

The ferry, the last of its kind along the Potomac River, closed in late December because of a decades-old dispute between the operator and the owner of the landing site on the Virginia side of the river.

The legal dispute pitted the Maryland-based ferry against a Virginia farm, and was based on a centuries-old conflict over the ferry’s landing on the western side of the Potomac River.
