The Kooks @ the 9:30 Club

Those who showed up at the 9:30 Club on Saturday night with any doubts about The Kooks’ talent were certainly persuaded, and maybe even wooed into super-fan territory. The four lads from Brighton played a pitch-perfect set that had all the classic elements of an epic rock show, including crowdsurfing and a young woman who threw her underwear up on stage. The Kooks have been on the fast track to superstardom since forming in 2004,…

Morning Roundup: Ice, Ice Baby Edition

We regret that we must bring you this headline in earnest, D.C. It’s not just hype, it’s the real deal. Cold weather is up in your grill: literally if you try to start your car this morning and figuratively if you’re walking outside without a scarf or mouth guard of some kind. We Still Don’t Know Dick

Is the theatre world crying out for five plays centering around Vice President Dick Cheney? It’s certainly a topic that hasn’t yet been done to death artistically. Even still, a handful of shows will get their start today. At DCist, we’d love to…

Emmy Nominations Announced

Bright and early this morning the 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced. Like the red-headed stepchild of the Oscars, the Emmys are a chance for Hollywood’s lesser starlets and stars to participate in their own self congratulatory fest. ABC’s campy but fun Desperate Housewives leads this year with 15 nominations. Viewers can look forward to a three way cat-fight between housewives Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, and Felicity Huffman for Best Actress in a…

We know our readers were probably too busy watching Johnny Damon (yay!) hit a grand slam and may have missed a few key plot points of last night’s episode of the West Wing, but not to worry! DCist proudly introduces the first installment of our We Watch So You Don’t Have To series.
