Morning Roundup: Zoo Under Fire Edition

Good morning Washington. Today will be a hot and sticky one: mostly cloudy, with showers and thunderstorms likely all day, and temps in the 80s. Capital Weather says we should expect to “stay in the soup for the next couple of days.” Patrick from DCBlogs posted this photo to DCist photos. National Zoo Critiqued: The Post has conducted a review of documents obtained from the National Zoo on five high-profile animal deaths in recent years,…

Randall Shelter Activists Back at It

(From DCist contributor Zoe Mitchell) Things are mighty fiesty inside the Wilson Building again today and it has nothing to do with baseball. According to an inside source, three activists from MayDay DC have already been arrested, while another activist is occupying the building’s ledge again. The activists are upset at the closure of the Randall Shelter, which is up for final vote today during the last regularly scheduled D.C. Council hearing this session. Also,…

Four D.C. Libraries to Be Rebuilt

(From DCist contributor Zoe Mitchell) More buildings in D.C. are coming down soon. Flash Mobs: So Last Year, But …

(From DCist contributor Zoe Mitchell) Yeah, yeah, we know flash mobs were, like, so 2003, but DCist is intrigued by a posting on a local blog about a ‘First DC Flash Mob’. Technically, it isn’t really the first in D.C., but this flash mob excites us because: Traditionally, flash mobs have had no political connotations, however, this one will be different. While flash mobs in other cities have been politicized, in protest-happy D.C., flash mobs…

The primary for November District of Columbia elections will be held next Tuesday, Sept. 14. The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics can provide voting information, and has a full list of candidates running. Meanwhile, blogger Zoe Mitchell reports at a recent candidate’s forum most attention focused on current councilmember Jack Evans, who is running unopposed, and no less than three candidates showed up late. Also, there’s a candidate forum tomorrow organized by a tenants’…
