Good morning, Washington, and a Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you. If you’re looking for a healthy dose of scary law enforcement warnings about the dangers of holidays devoted almost entirely to drinking, look no further than the Washington Times. They’ve got local bar managers promising additional security and Assistant Chief of Police Patrick Burke warning Guinness-swilling Washingtonians that the MPD’s message is, “don’t test your luck on St. Patrick’s Day” (in terms of drinking and driving). So festive!

Police Officer in Killing ID’d: The Washington Post reports that three unidentified police sources have given up the name of the officer who shot and killed Jelani Slay. Keith Boyd, a former corrections officer and 4th District police officer since 2002, was the off-duty officer who exchanged gunfire with Slay after he allegedly tried to rob Boyd and an unidentified female friend of his while they sat in his car. Not many more details were available on Boyd, and the official MPD word is that they still won’t publicly identify him.

Oh, OCTO: More follow up this morning on the federal case against Office of the Chief Technology Officer employee Yusuf Acar and his allegedly years-long embezzlement scam. The Examiner spoke with two of Acar’s accused partners-in-crime, and they say “widespread corruption in the technology office” existed long before Acar even started his scheme. “Contractors routinely filed phony work and parts orders, and the city would pay them, no questions asked,” according to the source. Sure feels like we’ve got another Office of Tax and Revenue on our hands. Meanwhile, the Post finds out that Acar had “more than $4,500 inside pajamas he was wearing when he was arrested last week,” a both funny and disturbing fact that prosecutors are using to argue that Acar should be held without bond due to concerns he is a flight risk. Acar is scheduled to come before U.S. Magistrate Judge John Facciola today.
