As of yesterday morning, John Wall’s status for last night’s Wizards/Sixers game was unknown. The walking boot he had been wearing on his injured ankle had been removed, he participated in a couple of practices, and he even took part in pre-game warm-ups prior to the Wizards/Pistons game on Sunday night..
Still, when Coach Flip Saunders met with reporters after yesterday morning’s shoot around, he was reluctant to say that Wall would definitely play in the game that night.
“Game-time decision,” said Saunders. “We’ll see how he reacts today after shoot-around and how he works out prior to the game. We’ll make a decision an hour before.”
I arrived at the Verizon Center an hour and a half before last night’s game, and headed to the Sixers side of the locker room for my normal pregame routine of interviewing players and coaches. I wanted to see how the players felt about the upcoming game, and if they felt any sense of revenge since they lost a close game to the Wizards back on opening night. The Sixers wanted to talk about that — but first, they wanted to know if John Wall was playing.
“Is Wall starting?” asked Sixers guard Jrue Holiday.
“Have we heard anything definitive on Wall?” Sixers coach Doug Collins inquired.
“Is Wall starting, is he sitting, what’s the deal?” asked a cameraman from Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia.
