Photo by yonas1.Hey, did you realize that taxicab fares “longer than two miles in Washington are the cheapest fares among 40 major U.S. cities”?
Funny, we had no idea. (But you can believe it, because cab drivers say that it’s true!)
Of course, that claim can only be made before you add in the extra dollar in fuel surcharge currently tacked on to every taxi trip. Or the $1.50 for every additional passenger over the age of 6. Or the $1.75 it’ll cost you to ride from National Airport, the fifty cents it’ll cost you for a driver to touch your bag, the two bucks you’ll pay to have a cab dispatched to you, or any time it’s a snow emergency. Or the extra cash you’ll spend if the cab driver tries to take you to your destination via a circuitous route, or use an area known to be a traffic nightmare, or thanks to any number of other driver-based errors.
But, sure, all things considered, we’re pretty glad that we’re not subject to those brutal Honolulu fares.
