There are variations of the Occupy movement in plenty of cities, but starting today, a group of Occupy Wall Street protesters will make their way down to the District to meet with their local counterparts — and they’re walking here.
During the walk, called Occupy the Highway, a group of protesters plan to walk 20 miles a day in hopes of reaching the District by November 23, when the congressional super-committee on deficit reduction is scheduled to meet.
They’ll be stopping in 11 places from Elizabeth, New Jersey to Laurel, Maryland; and once they’ve joined their peers in McPherson Square, they’ll have walked 240 miles. (We can only assume that they’ll be disappointed when they get here, because the Occupy protest is sooooooooooo much better in New York.)
If you’re curious about precisely how they’re going to get here, the route is here; the schedule of planned stops is here.
