Tomorrow’s planned trip to New Hampshire by Mayor Vince Gray, members of the D.C. Council and representatives of the group DC Vote to lobby Granite State officials on the merits of making the District the 51st state has been snowed out.

The forecast for Concord calls for between three and four inches of snow tomorrow, enough to cancel all House business for the day. Councilmembers Michael A. Brown (I-At Large) and David Catania (I-At Large), who are trying to put together a multi-state tour on behalf of statehood, tell DCist they’re working on rescheduling. (The City Paper reports that at least one D.C. activist made it up today—former hunger striker Adrian Parsons.)

It’s not the first time D.C. statehood efforts have been nixed by frosty New England weather. In 2008, New Hampshire State Rep. Cindy Rosenwald introduced a bill that would have made it official Granite State policy to support statehood. Her measure passed its committee vote that February 6, but a final vote was never counted after a snowstorm later that winter prevented the full statehouse from having an acceptable quorum for a final vote. (Rosenwald introduced another statehood bill last year.)

Had they made the trip, the D.C. contingent would have had New Hampshire all to themselves, what with the traveling circus known as the Republican presidential primaries leaving town last night. No word yet as to when exactly the trip will happen now. Brown is also planning to lead a trip to Florida at the end of the month. (Fair warning: It has been known to snow there every so often, and Tallahassee is in the panhandle.)

On the up side, at least for New Hampshire residents, the skiing should be good tomorrow, and Loon Mountain, in the cozy little town of Lincoln, is lovely with a fresh coat of powder.
