Real Estate will be playing a sold out show at the Black Cat on Sunday.
MONDAY
Three Stars alum Tereu Tereu has been through a couple of different lineup changes and one serious stylistic shift from pop group with horns to a noisier ’90s indie rock meets ’70s prog rock approach. This show at Galaxy Hut with We Were Pirates is one of two times that you’ll be able to catch Tereu Tereu this week. $5, 9:00 p.m.
TUESDAY
Local experimental music duo Lost Civilizations continues their “Third Tuesdays” residency at Dynasty Ethiopian Restaurant at 2210 14th Street, N.W. with special guests and former Three Stars subjects, Sansyou. Sansyou’s peaceful guitar sound will be a good complement to the jazzier Lost Civilizations whose compositions run the full gamut of velocities and decibel levels. Free, 8:00 p.m.
Velvet Lounge: Anthony Pirog, CJ Boyd, Tag Cloud. $8, 9:00 p.m.
Iota: Harper Blynn, David Mead. $10, 8:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
One of the week’s heaviest offerings (at least sonically) will be the shoegaze-y triple bill of Screen Vinyl Image, Ceremony and Silo Halo. Be prepared for lots of reverb, and lots of impressive guitar playing courtesy of all three bands. Also be prepared to bring your earplugs to the Black Cat (although they do have earplugs for fifty cents if you forget yours.) $10, 8:00 p.m.
U Street Music Hall: Moombahton Massive XI with Nadastrom, Sabo, Bro Safari, Pickster One. $8 in advance/$10 at the door, 9:00 p.m.
THURSDAY
They were the final act to play Maryland Deathfest in 2011 and they’ll be heading to the Rock and Roll Hotel tonight. Stockholm’s Ghost is a very theatrical band, performing in costume and often acting out their songs, which regularly deal with themes such as religion and the occult. Additionally, they twist metal’s preconception that the songs must be growled rather than sung and add in clean vocals. It’s like a heavier, updated Blue Oyster Cult. Blood Ceremony and Ancient VVisdom open. $15, 8:30 p.m.
Birchmere: Robert Earl Keen. $39.50, 7:30 p.m.
FRIDAY
The space at 443 Eye Street has gone through many names and iterations as an underground performance and recording space, but the place currently known as Gold Leaf will start its metamorphosis into condos next month. As such a few locals (Ra Ra Rasputin and Miyazaki) and a few grateful out of towners (White Life and Sunset Recorder) will be giving the space a fitting goodbye party. $5 suggested donation, 9:00 p.m.
St. Stephen’s Church: Foozle, Guilty, Coxey Brown, Dactyl, Belegost, and The Black Sparks. Benefit for All Ages Movement Project. $5, 6:00 p.m.
Black Cat: Jucifer, Borracho, Akris. $12, 9:00 p.m.
Comet Ping Pong: K Holes, the Gumbas, DJ Kid Congo Powers, DJ Baby Alcatraz, M.C. Majestic Ape and Video Art by Ryan Hill & Rob Parrish. $10, 10 p.m.
SATURDAY
Positive Force‘s second show this weekend at St. Stephen’s Church should be quite the dance party. The Voltron of local DJs that is Volta Bureau will be performing with Ra Ra Rasputin and Miyazaki to benefit the Collective Action for Safe Spaces. $5, 8:00 p.m.
SUNDAY
Matt Siblo was clearly not the only person who loved the lazy suburban tunes of Real Estate‘s Days since their show at the Black Cat with Woods/Vivian Girls side project The Babies is sold out. You may be out of luck on this one as typing “Real Estate” into Craigslist or even “Real Estate Black Cat” is not conducive to finding the tickets you’re looking for, but it’s worth a shot. Sold out, 8:00 p.m.
