Yes, it’s true—Bernardo, one of the National Zoo’s adorable Andean bears, left D.C. yesterday for Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bernardo was born in the National Zoo in 2010, along with sister Chaska. At the time, they were the first Andean bears to be born at the zoo in 22 years and the first bears of their type at a U.S. zoo since 2005. Both received their names through an open voting contest sponsored in part by the Venezuelan and Peruvian embassies, two of the countries where the bears live. In today’s Photo of the Day, Dan Dan The Binary Man gives Bernardo the pictorial send-off he deserves.
