We may post slideshows of adorable cheetah cubs in hopes of getting a little traffic boost, but the folks over at The Daily Caller seem to have a whole other approach: give away guns.

The conservative-leaning D.C.-based website announced this week that it will be giving away an FMK9C1 9mm handgun every week through the November 6 general election (at which point a Mitt Romney victory will provoke said gun-owners to fire into the air in celebration, we assume) for anyone who signs up to receive it’s daily newsletter.

“Like most Americans outside Washington, DC, New York City and most of our nation’s news rooms, large numbers of Daily Caller readers love guns. These people are already looking to our new Guns and Gear section for the latest product reviews and Second Amendment news,” said Neil Patel, Publisher and CEO. “Thanks to Guns and Gear editor Mike Piccione, and the generous support of FMK, we are excited to have the opportunity to give those loyal and engaged readers the chance to win a new pistol every week leading up to the election.”

These aren’t just any guns, though—they come in three colors and are engraved with the Bill of Rights.

Now before you get all excited and sign up for breaking right-leaning journalism (and all the Ann Coulter you can stomach), you should read through the very fine print. If you win, it’s not like you can just walk down to the Daily Caller’s office and pick up a gun. You’ll have to have it transferred to a federally licensed transfer agent, and D.C. only has one of those. And even before you pick up the gun from him, you’ll have to jump through the usual registration hoops. (And yes, the fine print includes very explicit provisions relating to what you do with that gun being your problem and your problem alone.)

It’s a pretty inventive little giveaway, and we won’t lie—we’re jealous. We’re still working with our own corporate overlords to see if we can muster some branded bongs. Oh wait, those are illegal. Pit bulls? Too much legal exposure, especially in Maryland. We might just have to settle for some DCist t-shirts. Bulletproof DCist t-shirts.
