A security guard working in the lobby of a Chinatown office building was shot earlier today, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department said. Police responded about 10:50 a.m. to the building at 801 G Street NW after the guard was shot in the arm. The guard’s wound is non-life-threatening and the guard was conscious and breathing when authorities arrived, police said.

Police took one person into custody, but have not yet released any information about the suspect. Officers closed down the 800 block of G street in both directions. The FBI has also responded to the scene, WJLA reports.

The building at 801 G Street is home to the headquarters of the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian activism and lobbying organization. The group released a statement from its president, Tony Perkins, in the wake of the shooting.

“The police are investigating this incident,” Perkins said. “Our first concern is with our colleague who was shot today. Our concern is for him and his family.”

The suspect is being questioned by FBI agents, Rebecca Callahan, a spokeswoman for the bureau, told DCist. She said that it is too early in the investigation of the shooting to determine what, if any, connection the suspect has with the Family Research Council.

UPDATE, 1 p.m.: A Metropolitan Police Department spokesman said the investigation is a joint operation between D.C. police and the FBI. The bureau responded because the building at 801 G Street houses a federal office, the spokesman said.
