MUSIC: If you missed The Walkmen’s sold-out show yesterday, don’t fret—a second night was added at the 9:30 Club, where you’ll be able to hear them play new cuts from the album Heaven. 8 p.m. $25.

CELEBRATE COLUMBIA HEIGHTS: It’ll be a beautiful day for the Sixth Annual Columbia Heights Day, so head down to the Harriet Tubman Elementary School field (11th and Kenyon Streets NW) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the festivities. Free.
VIRGIN MUSIC: The Virgin Mobile Freefest returns to Merriweather Post Pavillion today, starting at noon and including acts ranging from Nas and ZZ Top to Jack White and Ben Folds Five. Tickets were handed out for free and are long since gone, but a premium package is available for $49.50 or you can get $20 tickets at the 9:30 Club box office from noon to 6 p.m. Friday.
THE ONLY DEBATE THAT MATTERS: No Barack Obama. No Mitt Romney. And, thankfully, no Jim Lehrer. But Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly will partake in the only debate that matters this year, going head-to-head at GW’s Lisner Auditorium. Tickets are gone, but for $4.95 you can livestream the event. Alternatively, we’ll be there, so look out for tweets and a post-debate write-up.
TOTALLY MADE UP EXCUSE FOR DRINKING: It’s Douglas Jefferson Day! What’s that? A fictional holiday that serves as an excuse to get a drink at a bar. So go do your duty and celebrate Douglas Jefferson the way he would have wanted.
TASTE CITY AND SUBURBS: Both Taste of D.C. and Taste of Bethesda are taking place this weekend. Head to Pennsylvania Avenue between Ninth and 14th Streets for over 50 D.C. restaurant sampling, or to Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle for 55 restaurants.

NORTH CAP CELEBRATION: Head down to T Street between First and North Capitol Streets NW from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today for the Fourth Annual North Capitol Main Street Festival. There will be a pig roast and other treats from Rustik and Boundary Stone, local brews from DC Brau and Chocolate City and a scavenger hunt. Free.
BLESS THOSE PETS: Bring your pet (or adopt a new one from the Animal Rescue League) at the annual blessing of the animals at the Washington National Cathedral this Sunday. In preparation, check out these adorable pictures from the 2010 blessing of the animals. 2:30 p.m.
