First came the single, “Hot and Cold,” and our interest was piqued. Then came the excellent cover of Slant 6’s “Some Kind of Monster,” and we were definitely impressed. Now, after playing some live shows and premiering killer music video, Ex Hex, the new(ish) D.C. supergroup featuring Mary Timony (Wild Flag, Autoclave, Helium), Laura Harris (The Aquarium), and Betsy Wright (Chain & The Gang), has announced their debut album and premiered the first track from it and we’re officially excited.
The record, Rips, will drop October 7 on Merge Records and the first song from it, “Don’t Wanna Lose,” not only, uh, rips, but stitches it all back together just rip again. Unlike “Hot and Cold,” “Don’t Wanna Lose,” hits hard and fast, with a reverb-heavy intro, slowly building up to a fist-pumping, sing-a-long chorus. Check it out below:
Ex Hex plays with Hospitality and Soccer Team at Rock & Roll Hotel on July 24. Tickets here.
