Ex Hex—the new(ish) local supergroup featuring Mary Timony, Betsy Wright, and Laura Harris—is dropping their debut album via Merge Records on October 7th and if this new track is any indication, it’s going to rip.
Of course, the name of the record is Rips, so that should be your first indication that the album will indeed rip, but “Beast”—a new track that debuted earlier this morning on Pitchfork—confirms it: this is rock ‘n’ roll at its finest. The powering track is a classic garage-y barnburner; complete with wailing, screeching guitar solos peppered in between the punchy rhythm courtesy Wright and Harris. For those keeping track at home, this marks the third track from Rips we’ve heard so far. You can listen to “Hot and Cold” and “Don’t Wanna Lose” here and here.
Ex Hex will play Black Cat with Speedy Ortiz on October 7. Tickets here.
