While streetcars are still not carrying passengers along H Street and Benning Road NE, the city will begin issuing $100 fines today to vehicles that block the path it will one day take.

The D.C. Department of Public Works will begin to ticket and tow vehicles that are double parked, outside the white parking line or are in some other way blocking the tracks. “Ticketing will be an ongoing occurrence along the corridor and is not expected to cease,” according to a release. The D.C. Department of Transportation began issuing warning tickets earlier this year to prepare motorists to interact with the streetcar.

Streetcar testing is ongoing, and officials have yet to set a date for passenger service.
