With one month left in 2014, D.C. is down to 30 days to start streetcar passenger service on H Street and Benning Road NE by the revised deadline. The city’s transportation agency is sticking with the estimate, but isn’t providing specifics.
After pushing the estimated start of passenger service from the end of 2013 to February 2014 to sometime in 2014, D.C. Department of Transportation officials settled on the end of the year. A DDOT spokesperson stuck by that estimate in an email today, but did not provide further details.
Simulated service began in late September, as streetcars began regularly rolling up and down the H Street corridor and Benning Road. While officials were aiming for November, paperwork issues are holding up certification and the launch, WAMU reported.
The city has released regulations on proposed hours of operation, but hasn’t released to the public information about fares.
