Looks like inflating a 51-foot joint and smoking up in front of the White House to get President Obama’s attention might have worked—marijuana advocates say they’ve scored a meeting with a member of the president’s administration for next Monday.

The leaders of DCMJ—which spearheaded the passage of Initiative 71 in D.C.—say they were invited to the White House to discuss removing cannabis from its current classification as a Schedule One drug on Monday, April 25.

The White House confirmed the meeting to the Washington Post.

“This is an opportunity for the White House to meet with serious and committed cannabis activists and hear our case for why it’s in President Obama’s best interest to work with the attorney general to fully remove cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act, ” said DCMJ co-founder and communications director Nikolas Schiller in a release.

Schiller says the invite comes from the Office of Public Engagement, after DCMJ sent letters to Obama and eight OPE staffers about the then-forthcoming civil disobedience at the White House. “I am willing to call off the mass-consumption of cannabis if you agree to a Bud Summit, where leaders of the cannabis reform movement are invited to the White House to discuss steps you can take to end the failed War on Drugs you inherited as president,” read the letter, signed by DCMJ co-founder Adam Eidinger.

DCMJ has been critical of Obama when it comes to marijuana reform, with Eidinger telling DCist before the smoke-in that “Obama’s been a 0 on this issue. He has the same marijuana policy as George Bush. He’s a hypocrite and we’re calling him out.”

Since then, the Drug Enforcement Agency announced it would reconsider marijuana’s classification in the “first half of 2016.”

Activists returned to the White House two weeks after the protest for a seed giveaway.
