D.C. has plenty of great cocktail bars, but the city lost it’s collective shit last year when mixology mastermind Derek Brown (Columbia Room, Southern Efficiency) unveiled Miracle on 7th Street, a holiday-themed pop-up bar housed inside Mockingbird Hill (1843 7th St. NW). The bar was transformed into a legitimate winter wonderland complete with lights, tinsel, and even ornamental gold reindeer.

People ate (and drank) it up. Apparently there is just something about sipping a sherry cocktail garnished with a piece of Christmas wreath while gazing at a dreidel chandelier and listening to festive music. Drink names all got the holiday treatment as well, with names like “Mele Kalikimaka” (tiki scorpion bowl) and the “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”

Judging by last year’s long lines, which stretched down the block and made getting in a chore, Brown is smart to dedicate more space to the project the second time around. He’s expanding the bar to include his two adjoining concepts, Eat the Rich and Southern Efficiency.

“Last year was so much fun, it’s hard to imagine how we could make it more fun, but guess what: we will,” Brown said in yesterdays announcement.

Miracle’s menu will include craft cocktails as well boozy snacks and a special beer cocktail that’s being developed in partnership with Stella Artois and Budweiser.

And just like your neighbors who can’t wait to get up their Christmas decorations, Miracle on 7th will launch the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 25. It will run through New Year’s Eve, and the bar is planning a special event for that evening.
