The bubble may have burst on the self-service yogurt market, but that’s not stopping one business from introducing a new frozen treat to the city: Ice cream rolls.
The Southeast Asian treat will hit the city this weekend with the opening of IcyCode (2029 P St. NW) in Dupont Circle. And yes, that is the old TangySweet yogurt location.
IcyCode says on its website that its product “combines Thai street food specialties with the customization and flavorful options diners around Washington, D.C. have come to expect.”
The dessert is made by “frying” ice cream in flavors like cappuccino, very berry and matcha honey on a super cold pan (around -30 degrees). It’s rolled out and customized with fillings like marshmallows, cookies, strawberries, bananas, or caramel. Sort of like an ice cream crepe, if you will. After it gets cold enough, it’s rolled up and put into a bowl. Just be sure to eat them before they melt all over the place.
IcyCode is celebrating its grand opening this Saturday, Nov. 12 with free tastings from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. It’s not an ideal concept to open with winter around the corner, but give them props for bringing something new to the neighborhood.
