As residents in Florida, Texas, the U.S. Virginia Islands, and Puerto Rico struggle to recover from the trio of recent hurricanes, folks in D.C. are offering support to rebuilding efforts.

While 10 D.C. police officers headed to a devastated Puerto Rico on Wednesday morning, District residents who remain are pulling together resources through donation drives, benefit parties, and more.

Here’s a list of some upcoming events in the D.C. area to support recovery efforts for victims who’ve survived the catastrophic Harvey, Irma, and Maria hurricanes. This list will be updated as more events are announced.

  • Don Tito’s in Arlington is hosting a Hurricane Irma relief happy hour on September 28. There will be discounted mixed drinks, a raffle, and more. The restaurant is also partnering with community groups to raise $25,000, which local real estate firm Keri Shull team will match dollar for dollar for a total donation of $50,000 to give to SBP: Disaster Resilience and Recovery.
  • Randolph Terrance will headline Capital Laugh’s monthly Comedy for Stuff that Matters event on September 29 at Town Tavern. Donations are $10. One Half of the proceeds will go to UNICEF in support of children who were displaced in Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria. The other half will go to the American Red Cross’s relief efforts for victims impacted by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.
  • The Afro Soca Love: DC Donation Drive is happening on September 30 at Hard Rock Cafe. The event will have a “rave-inspired atmosphere with an African and Caribbean twist,” and various activities for guests. Tickets are $15-25, and funds will be donated to the Hurricane Irma Relief Fund.
  • Friends of Puerto Rico and Run Hope Work are hosting a 5k benefit run on October 1 to assist with rebuilding efforts on the island. Participants will start on the Capital Crescent Trail at 3500 K Street NW at 8:30 a.m. The run is $25 for entry, plus participants get a Puerto Rico bandanna.
  • Npowered Fitness is hosting Work It Out, a donation-based fitness class on October 4 at WeWork Wonderbread Factory. After the class, participants will pack relief kits for Hurricane Harvey victims. People can bring cash donations or items such as toiletries or new and gently-used clothing and blankets.
  • The folks at Sip and Sew Old Town are gathering on October 22 for a Hurricane Relief Love Project where people will sew drawstring backpacks to stock with necessities for hurricane victims. Organizers will teach sewing basics on site so you don’t have to be a professional seamstress to take part. The backpacks will be filled with items such as flashlights, batteries, first-aid kits, snacks, and baby items. Participants can also write notes of encouragement. The group’s goal is to make 100 bags to send to St. Croix, St. Thomas, Dominica, and Puerto Rico. People can reserve seats and show up any time between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. at Monet Gogh Sip & Spa in Alexandria.
  • Nearly three dozen restaurants in D.C. have created Caribbean-inspired drinks and committed to donating $1 from each drink sale to assist in hurricane relief efforts in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Jill Tyler, co-owner of Tail Up Goat in Adams Morgan and a Virgin Islands native, created the #dcdrinksforvi fundraiser in response to Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Participating restaurants include Convivial, All Purpose, Himitsu, Rose’s Luxury, Boundary Stone, and Ren Hen, among others. Proceeds will benefit St. John Rescue, Kenny Chesney’s Foundation, Love For Love City Foundation, Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands, and Tim Duncan’s Fund; 21 US Virgin Island Relief Fund. The fundraising campaign runs for the next few weeks.
