Everything You Need To Know About The Silver Line Extension

KEY HEADLINES

Today’s Silver Line was on the early back-of-the-napkin sketches for the Metrorail system when it was being developed in the mid-1960s. But the idea for a line that stretched as far as Dulles International Airport took a backseat until the late 1990s.

Nearly 25 years later, the vision is almost a reality. The final 11.5 miles and six stations along the Phase II extension opened on November 15.

The project has gone through construction pains, four years of delays, and hundreds of millions in cost overruns. But the train line finally extends into Loudoun County, Virginia for the first time, driving development around the stations and providing a new transit option to Dulles.
