When the Capitol Police released a bland list of intersections where they would implement checkpoints, the District’s media organizations were quick to create helpful graphics. However, not all checkpoint maps are made the same. Let’s take a quick look at what the mediasphere had to offer. To see the sources, click on any of the graphics.
We’ll start with the Post, which produced a graphic you might expect from the District’s largest newspaper. Their graphic is clear, and features helpful explanatory text explaining the new security policies.
Second, there is this rather mediocre graphic produced by the people over at WUSA/CBS-9, which appears as if they did little more than plot some dots roughly on a map of the Capitol area.
Lastly, this map posted by WRC/NBC-4 is something of an enigma. It appears to be a scanned document, colorfully illustrating the precise plan motivating the checkpoints.
DCist is particularly puzzled by the abrupt installation of the security measures, which D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton described as “unacceptable” on the air over at WTOP, particularly since the “intelligence” uncovered which caused the elevation to a state of Orange Alert was based on four-year-old evidence.
