This week, Fox and the “American Idol” crew are in town to audition thousands of contestants at the Washington Conevention Center. Rising Idols from near and far, optimistic of their prospects for fame and fortune, were probably a bit peeved if they read the Post’s take on the starsearch process.

The way they see it, they are all destined for Hollywood, and they are all traveling under God’s wing. They are all hopeful, and they are all sincere, and they are almost all going to lose, except for whichever one happens to be talking at the moment.

DCist admires optimism, but we’re sure that many dreams have been crushed at the Convention Center. And some fallen starlets have been throwing hissy fits on Seventh Street over their lunch hour. A few DCist sources in the area told us that the McDonald’s was packed with youngsters, as was the Chiptole, and at least one teenage girl, showing off her “American Idol” contestant bracelet in the Fuddrucker’s window was yelling at an older woman, probably her mother over an undetermined matter.

Meanwhile, DCSOB has declared WTTG/Fox 5 as the SOB of the Week for its “Idol” promotional antics, and is criticizing the Post as well.
