DC Metro Action is reporting the HERE Union is planning a demonstration at Park America, located at 1001 Pennsylvania Ave. NW on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m.
According to the union, HERE Local 27, workers have filed an unfair labor practice complaint with the National Labor Relations Board “alleging that Park America management illegally questioned workers about union activity.”
The workers’ union has been fighting for better benefits and wages:
“Currently, half of DCs predominately Ethiopian, Eritrean and Latino parking workers have a voice at work with UNITE HERE Local 27, Parking & Service Workers Union, AFL-CIO. … Parking workers, who work in one of the highest revenue-generating businesses in town, make poverty wages and pay skyrocketing amounts for healthcare for their families. Parking companies are getting rich, while parking workers struggle to survive.”
