Think you had a bad day yesterday? I bet Redskins linebacker LaVar Arringtons was worse. He was fined $5,000 by the NFL for a hit on Giants RB Tiki Barber last week and then had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. The current prognosis has him sidelined for two to four weeks, although no official timetable for his return has been set.
Head coach Joe Gibbs offered the typical coachspeak about an injured player:
From time to time that happens up here. We hate it and I think LaVar sucked up his guts last week and played with it and we thought he did a heck of a job for us. It’s just one of those things that happens and you need to get it taken care of. He’s somebody we think is going to play for a long time, so we’re going to make sure we take care of it.”
Lemar Marshall will start in Arringtons place.
In other injury news, quarterback Mark Brunell sat through most of practice yesterday while Patrick Ramsey took most of the snaps. Gibbs has not ruled out Brunell starting on Monday night at home against the Cowboys but his chances arent looking good. Brunell, of course, wants to play. “It’s too early to tell and ultimately it’s Coach Gibbs’s decision,” Brunell said. “But I’m shooting for it. I really want to be a part of that game.”
