We here at DCist apologize for our access problems over the past day or so, we were under the hood tinkering around and some unexpected problems popped up. We are now fully in operation. Thanks to some of our friends for passing the word along.
– Adam over at eebmore tips us off to a story in the Baltimore City Paper about DCers taking over Baltimore neighborhoods. Citing lawns, cheaper property, and friendly neighbors, the story describes neighborhoods “under siege” by Washingtonians, even though “Being from Baltimore automatically made us less cool [growing up] … “
– Planned Parenthood has opened a clinic in Falls Church targeting lesbian and bisexual women “regardless of whether they need family planning services.”
– An announcement about baseball returning to the District may occur tomorrow or Wednesday, and “three former players from the Washington Senators have been contacted” about a ceremony welcoming baseball back. Meanwhile, the Post is reporting Some in SE Say Stadium not Welcome, and Landowners Feel Stadium Squeeze. Upon hearing the proposal would displace several businesses serving the gay community, DCeiver suggests “the gay community in DC should organize, flash money clips, and announce their intention to turn DC’s professional baseball concern into the pre-eminent gay-themed sporting team and arena complex in the world.”
– A teen was shot in SE, and three died in shootings in Prince George’s county, and the serial arsonist set some more fires around town.
– Hurricane Jeanne is headed our way, and is expected to cause heavy rain after midnight tonight.
– Kevin Moore’s Transit Rider’s Union Yahoo group has spawned a full-blown nonprofit organization with a website “soon to be made public” at MetroRiders.Org. Also, Metrorail now opens at 5 a.m.
